Moving from one stage of life to another is a big task in life. It often leaves the person hanging in between, not knowing where to go next. However, in this period of instability, it is essential to remember the goals that serve as anchors to help move forward. Olivia Nunn, a military veteran, went through a similar patch in life during her retirement, where she felt suspended in the air, not knowing where to fly next.
The tough times soon dissipated by her sheer will and agency to move forward in life by working on her goal of bridging the gap between the military and civilian worlds. She also acknowledged the need to take time out for herself and worked on improving her mental health. Along with her company, Olivia Nunn Communications, she also created a blog, Calm.in.the.storm, where she shares little snippets from her life.
Her digital space serves as a platform where Olivia showcases her internal diva and completely expresses her free spirit and breezy nature. She connects to the audience like no other by being transparent about her active struggle of opening up and speaking about the hurdles one faces in life. She also uses her interactive platform to propagate her goals and religiously shares all the work that she has been doing for military and civilian communities alike.
Olivia keenly focuses on the incentive of prioritizing mental health and is a part of several projects like WorkPlayObsession, a non-profit organization that works on healing invisible wounds and traumas of military service. She believes that it is only through speaking up and accepting the need for help that one is able to heal the traumas of life and ultimately find closure.
In the future, Olivia wants to work on her mission of creating more resources for those struggling. She envisions her company as “creating a PR agency that bridges the civilian and military communities together. To effectively drive change and tackle the hard conversations of mental health, race, and more.”
Along with this, she also wants to focus on healing her own mental health because change starts from within. A part of working on one’s own mental state is to indulge in activities that one enjoys. Olivia has a creative and adventurous spirit and wants to try new areas of work; she says, “Outside of my business goals, my personal goal is to get into voice-over work and be an anime character on a major motion movie one day.”
